According to an INSEE survey entitled "Income, standard of living and poverty in 2016", published in December 2018, 20.8% of "pupils and students" were below the poverty line (60% of the median standard of living), compared with 12.8% of the population as a whole. Under these conditions, it is the food budget that is being sacrificed.

This is why the FAGE, from 2011, has set up its AGORAé project. The AGORAés are solidarity grocery stores, accessible to students in precarious situations, under condition of resources. These grocery stores are located in the places of study, and even, in some cases, in the universities. These grocery stores are managed by volunteer teams accompanied by volunteers on civic service missions.

Since 2013, Fondation PSA, through its partnership with the FAGE, has supported 12 AGORAés:

  • Nice, Lille and Brest in 2013,
  • Lyon, Strasbourg, Saint-Etienne and Caen in 2015,
  • Valenciennes in 2016,
  • Grenoble, Orsay, Nancy and Reims in 2018 and 2019.

The vehicles financed by Fondation PSA have enabled more than 10,000 student beneficiaries to buy food in solidarity grocery stores, i.e. 88,676 kg of food distributed over the 2018/2019 academic year. The vehicles make frequent trips between the solidarity grocery store and food banks or supermarkets to ensure the transport of the collections of donations.
