Launched in 2011, the MuMo is a travelling museum of contemporary art. It is a truck that travels from the town's political establishments of the major cities to the most remote villages of the countries of Europe and Africa to provide children and inhabitants with the opportunity to admire works of renowned contemporary artists for free.

In collaboration with the Regional Contemporary Art Funds (Frac) and the National Center for Visual Arts (Cnap), the MuMo hosts 2 to 3 exhibitions a year. MuMo’s team, composed of a driver and two mediators, accompanies the works of public collections in the territories, creating moments of discovery and sharing with the inhabitants. Training sessions, tours, open houses, workshops in artistic practice and exhibitions and vernissages are organized around each traveling exhibition.

Prior to the arrival of the travelling Museum, a time of training in contemporary art is planned for teachers or local facilitators in order to continue the action initiated by the MuMo in the towns that hosted it.

Art is a tool for openness and sharing: Fondation PSA supports cultural roaming projects

« Our desire is to bring culture out of its walls. Culture connects people and enables them to integrate. »

Karine Hillaireau  General delegate of Fondation PSA.

Fondation PSa aims to bring art where cultural offerings are scarce or undiversified in order to reduce the cultural divide in rural and peri-urban areas. It is a lever of disengagement and revitalization of the territory.

Socially, it allows the inhabitants and the educational community to be connected with the cultural resources of the territory.

Finally, it offers children the opportunity to develop their emotional intelligence, their imaginary, the sense of the collective, the singularity, the capacity for autonomy.

The MuMo in key figures:

  • 60% of children who visited the MuMo had never visited the museum before
  • 50% of steps in villages of less than 2,000 inhabitants or in town's political extablishments
  • 40% of steps in cooperation with cultural players in the territory
  • More than 150,000 children in France and 7 countries in Europe and Africa took part in cultural activities offered by the MuMo
