OPENING THE SECTOR OF SYLVICULTURE TO PROFESSIONAL INCLUSION

Preserving forest ecosystem is an environmental issue of general interest. Forests help to combat climate change, improve air and water quality, prevent soil erosion and protect biodiversity. However, 74% of French forests belong to private forest owners (source IGN) who do not always have the financial means to maintain this heritage and therefor have to call on professionals.

Forestry jobs, on the other hand, are rural jobs, very little open to professional integration because of their technical nature and the obligation for workers to be mobile.

.

These are the twofold observations of the project "Workforce inclusion in forestry industry" which was supported by Foundation PSA in partnership with Duramen and ISEA (Integration Structures through Economic Activity).

The challenge is to open up the sector of professional integration to forestry in the Centre-Val de Loire region, i.e. 25 hectares of private forests.

For these reasons Fondation PSA wanted to build this project with local stakeholders in Centre Val de Loire region , Duramen association (MEcéNat pour une gestion forestière DURAble) and the ISEA. So together they can fight against climate change while allowing workets in inclusion to fond a job in the region.

Since 2019, Fondation PSA has procided financial support for training of workers in integration as part of a training program. With the support of Duramen , 36,000 trees will be planted by the end of 2021 on 26 hectares of Centre Val de Loire region.

Fondation PSA wished to supplement this plan with an additional financial support for the purchase of 4 vehicles. A vehicle for each ISEA to remove the mobility barriers and allow these employees to go to the forestry activity sites. In this way, 8 new inclusion sites were created. 30 workers in inclusion of four ISEA, ADS45, Le Relais, Solidarité Accueil et Castel Renaudais Insertion, will benefit from 3200 hours of training in forestry work with parcels cleaning, maintenance after plainting, maintenance of peatlands, reed plantations ...
